“Andy and Robin is a group of portraits that explore lighting experiments. These images take the basics of portraiture lighting and use them to explore the shapes of the face and body. This group of both color and black/white photographs use light to guide the eye to the highlighted part of the sitters, Andy Phan and Robin Jamkatel. In the studio I explored how a variety of lights react together with the sitters and a variety of backgrounds. Every image is limited to between 1 to 3 lights to be able to sculpt the light into what I want to highlight about the sitter whether that be a facial structure, clothing item, or posture. 

 The inspiration being drawn from Richard Avedon’s famous portraits can clearly be seen in this group of portraits. As these sitters are classmates, I wanted to show them in an elevated light. I aimed to use light as a way of highlighting them to make my audience see them differently and show a side of them that hasn't been seen before. that hasn’t been seen before. When creating this group of photos, I aimed at challenging myself to use light to showcase something very specific. In each of these photographs there is a very specific thing that the eye is guided too for a purpose.  I was able to pick what in the frame was going to be the focus and achieved that through sculpting the light.”
