Endland

Created in collaboration with photographer Joshua Marks, ENDLAND documents a 55-kilometre stretch of the Holderness coastline in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Through contemporary photography, combined with overlaping textures, ENDLAND seeks to construct a layered visual narrative that explores the relationship between place, people, time, and loss.

The Holderness coastline is the fastest-eroding coastlines in Europe and has undergone significant transformation over centuries. Since the Roman era, at least twenty known villages have been lost to coastal erosion, with homes, infrastructure, and entire communities continuing to disappear in the present day. By juxtaposing what currently exists with what has already vanished, the project aims to reflect on impermanence, environmental change, and the fragile nature of human settlement in the face of natural forces.

This work draws its graphic design elements from real textures found and documented in the region. The project incorporates layered compositions, considered page layouts, a branding system, and typographic exploration, using these collected materials to inform both the visual language and overall structure of the work. A cohesive design system was carried across the book, book sleeve, and accompanying poster, ensuring visual continuity across all formats.
