Guitar as an extension

Guitar as an Extension is a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. During the pandemic everyone was discovering new hobbies. Some of my close friends decided that the guitar was the perfect thing to pick up during this off time. So, what is a Photographer to do during this time of exploration?

Guitar as an Extension is a group of Photographs that show the importance of this artform to this group of people. This project is mainly portraits, candid and not, that show the relationship between instrument and musician during this time of artistic output. Furthermore, these images were made into a handmade photo-book to add to the isolated craftsmanship feeling that the pandemic brought upon creatives. The Inscription in the books says,

‘The 2020 pandemic caused isolation and great strain on mental health. Many turned to hobbies in these hard times. These few people turned to the guitar as an artistic outlet to ease their minds during the pandemic. During this time music became a second language and the guitar acted as an extension of the body.’

I aimed to not only document and compile the time these people and I shared together but also the reaction to a worldwide pandemic. These people used the guitar as an artistic outlet to create something beautiful during this time of suffering.”
